Chapter 1: The Windy Day Discovery

The school holidays had just begun. Liam and his best friend, Maya, were at their favourite place: Safety Beach. It wasn’t the biggest beach, but it had the best rock pools for searching for crabs.
Today, the wind was strong. It whipped the salty air and sent little sprays of white foam onto the sand. “Look, Liam!” Maya shouted, pointing towards a patch of seaweed near the dunes.
Instead of just seaweed, there were bits of rubbish. A broken plastic bucket, some tangled fishing line, and even a muddy, old sneaker. It was a messy pile.
Liam sighed. “That’s a lot of trash. It spoils the beach.”
Maya picked up a crushed bottle. “Imagine if everyone picked up just one thing. This beach would be perfect again.”
