Y2_Story_6: The Wombat Who Loved Carrots

Chapter 1: Wombat Digs

Max the Wombat lived in a cosy burrow. Every morning, Max liked to dig. He used his strong claws to push the dirt away. Scratch, scratch, scrape! The sun was warm on Max’s back. He was looking for something yummy to eat.

Chapter 2: A New Smell

Max stopped digging. He sniffed the air. “What is that lovely smell?” he thought. It was a sweet, earthy smell. It was stronger than the smell of gum leaves or damp soil. Max followed his nose out of his burrow and across the grassy patch.

Chapter 3: Farmer Giles’ Garden

The smell led Max to a small wooden fence. Behind the fence, a man named Farmer Giles had a garden. The garden was full of big, green leaves. Max saw a little patch of orange poking out of the ground. He knew what it was!

Chapter 4: The Crunchy Snack

Max was a very polite wombat. He did not climb the fence. Instead, he found a loose carrot lying right by the gate! Maybe a rabbit had dropped it. Max picked it up. CRUNCH! It was the sweetest, juiciest carrot he had ever eaten.

Chapter 5: Happy Max

Max sat down next to his burrow and finished the carrot. His tummy was full and happy. “Carrots are the best!” he mumbled. He decided to go for a nap and dream of orange snacks. He loved living in the Australian bush.
