Y2_Story_10: The Emu Who Wanted to Fly

Chapter 1: Fast Feet

Eddie the Emu was very good at running. He had long, strong legs. When Eddie ran, the dust puffed up behind him. He could run faster than a bicycle! But sometimes, Eddie looked up and sighed.

Chapter 2: The Galahs

High in a tall tree, a group of pink and grey galahs were sitting. They were singing a noisy song. Then, WHOOSH! They all flew off together. They went up, up, up into the blue sky.

Chapter 3: Trying Hard

Eddie looked at his small, fluffy wings. “If they can fly, maybe I can, too!” he thought. He ran to the top of a little hill. He flapped his wings as hard as he could. FLAP! FLAP! FLAP!

Chapter 4: Back on the Ground

Eddie jumped off the hill. He did not go up. He went down! THUMP! He landed softly on his big, webbed feet. He looked at his wings. They were not for flying. They were just for decoration.

Chapter 5: The Best Runner

A kangaroo named Kevin hopped over. “Hello, Eddie! I saw you jump. You are the best runner in the whole bush!” said Kevin. Eddie smiled. “I am a running star!” he agreed. He gave his big wings a proud, little shake. Running was his special power.
